What is a Featured Snippet
A Featured Snippet (highlighted snippet, position 0) is a special block in Google search results that appears above the organic results. Google automatically extracts a text excerpt from an indexed page that best answers the search query.
It occupies “position 0”—above the regular search results.

Paragraph (text)
The most common type—a short paragraph with an answer:

Featured Snippets are taken from the top 10 results (mostly the top 5).
2. Structure your content correctly

Featured Snippets most often appear for queries such as:
- “What is [term]?”
- “How to [perform an action]?”

FAQPage and Featured Snippets are different formats
FAQPage describes FAQs in Schema.org. You do not need to add it to get a Featured Snippet; the useful answer should be in the visible page content.

Does a Featured Snippet guarantee more traffic? Not always. “Position 0” can sometimes lower CTR because users get the answer without clicking. For question queries with a short answer, traffic may decline. For complex topics, position 0 increases CTR.
How long does a Featured Snippet stay in place? There is no permanent position. Google regularly reassesses candidates. Competitors can displace you by optimizing their content for the same query.
Can I opt out of Featured Snippets? Yes:
